Apple Butter Dumpling
Prep time: 45 minutes Cook time: 45 minutes
Total time: 1 hour 30 minutes
Servings: 8 Apple Dumplings
Ingredients:
- 4 Granny Smith Apples, peeled, cored, and halved
- 1 recipe Edwards Mill Biscuit Mix, unbaked
- 8 oz. Student-Made Apple Butter
- 2 c. sugar
- 2 c. water
- ½ c. unsalted butter
- ¼ c. chopped nuts or raisins, optional (I like to use our Student-Made Cinnamon Sugar Pecans)
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a 9x13in. pan.
- Roll the biscuit dough out on a floured surface to about ½in. thick. Cut the dough into 7in. circles.
- Place 1 apple half on each circle and sprinkle with nuts and raisins if desired.
- Wrap the dough over the top of the apples and pinch the dough together to seal. Place each dumpling with the seam side down in the prepared baking dish.
- In a small saucepan, heat the apple butter, sugar, water, and butter over medium heat, whisking occasionally.
- When the butter is fully melted and all ingredients are combined, pour the mixture over the dumplings and reserve 1 c. to baste with.
- Place the dumplings in the preheated oven and bake for 45 minutes, making sure to baste with the extra sauce every 15 minutes.
- Enjoy hot with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
